The day began with a mapping activity that tied in with their current science studies. Using the topographic map of the hike from the day before, students created a vertical (profile) map to show the changes in elevation throughout the hike. This was definitely a challenging activity, but once the kids got over their initial dismay at how complex the assignment actually was, I was impressed by how well they persevered. I also had them label certain landmarks like where we began the hike, where we stopped for lunch, etc. and some students added little captions and illustrations representing their experiences on the hike.
After lunch they did a History./English lesson during which they completed a creative writing assignment. For an hour or more, students wrote short stories from the 1400s that took place in Bellinzona and involved real historical figures from the time period.
With dinner came a show. The students performed skits based on the book Bloomability and I was impressed with their creative takes on the scenes. Their choice of scene was also interesting; one group of boys chose to act out a scene in which four girls are sitting in their dorm room giggling over the cute boys! Over half of the groups in last year's class chose the same scene, so this year we had a variety of six different scenes to enjoy.
Once more we played Minute to Win It games after our worship and devos. Penny Hose and Elephant March were in the line up for tonight.
